In Windows XP, I used to use sndrec32.exe (Sound Recorder accessory) to open a wav file and the get properties on the file. This would display the length, data size, and audio format (e.g. GSM 6.10 8.000 kHz, Mono). There was also the option to convert the file to another format. I can't find this functionality in Windows 7. What is an alternative (hopefully built in)?
How to get Sampling rate and frequency of music file. I'd check that out. For CD-quality audio, 44.1kHz is used for a sample rate. With audio files (particularly WAV's), Audio Sample Rate and Audio Sample Size are not available choices within the list of View Details with Vista.

SoundRecorder.exe in doesn't have this functionality. I always wondered by sndrec32.exe did have that, but I would like to know where that functionality went. Update: Based on the comments, it looks like Vista might have this information in the properties (I can't verify this). The properties of a WAV file in Windows 7 does not.
